FLINTLOCK PISTOL. Cal. 54. S# 1686. Bbl. 10". This is considered among the most beautiful & aesthetically pleasing of American martial pistols. The prestigious American Society of Arms Collectors chose this gun in profile as their logo. These guns were made in pairs between 1806 & 1808 w/ a total production of about 4,000 each gun of a pair having the same serial number. This gun is in the normal configuration of other guns of this pattern w/ 10" rnd. bbl., breech marked w/ raised eagle over “P” in a sunken oval behind a raised “US” in a sunken oval behind S# 1686. Lock is marked “HARPERS / FERRY / 1808” in vertical arcs behind cock. Under the pan is a spread winged eagle facing left over “US”. CONDITION: good overall, reconversion back to flint from percussion. Bbl. & lock cleaned w/ gray patina & pitting, lock markings well discerned including eagle which is often light. Bbl. proofs & serial number are discernible but weak. Brass cleaned w/ mixed mustard patina, contemporary crack repair to trigger guard tail. Stock is sound, well fit w/ no discernible cartouche. Mechanically functional, though mainspring weak, clear pitted bore. (01-19429/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
