ATTRACTIVE AMERICAN RESTOCKED HIGH QUALITY

FLINTLOCK FOWLER. Cal. 66. NSN. All metal parts of this gun appear to be sourced from a European fowler of fairly high quality. The 45” barrel with octagonal breech section transitions to round through wedding band & has flare to muzzle. Breech portion is deep relief chased with scrolls & has raised brass inlay of starburst & game bird. Lock is also deeply chased on its chamfered & arched lock plate. This deep engraving extends to serpentine cock & unbridled friction frizzen. Inset pan is rounded. Simple (probably American made) feather spring has spear finial. Brass furniture is deep relief cast with green men & knights along with Acanthus motifs. Brass sideplate is fairly simple & probably American made. Classic early style American made stock extends to muzzle with 5” brass cap & is made of a very fine piece of rock maple with full curled grain. Early features of stock include deep hand rail comb which is scooped out for cheek piece. Attractive sweep to toeline. Raised beavertail around barrel tang & pronounced palm swell behind thimble. Later hickory ramrod with brass tip mounts through 1 plain pipe soldered to forend tip. 2 Early style fancy midpipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: iron & steel parts retaining old dark brown patina with considerable overall pitting. Brass parts are nicely toned. Stock retain most of its original finish with attractive hand wear at grip & carrying point. Lock remains in original flint configuration, as does barrel. Bore is dark & pitted. Lock is operable. Stock is basically sound with old stress crack behind lock plate & some missing wood at top & bottom at rear. Trigger guard finial is missing. (01-21673/MGM). $1,750-2,750.
