SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 3". S# 886. Bbls. 28 1/16" 2 stripe Damascus are fitted with matted game rib with extension. Bbls. are completely unmarked except for serial number on right flat. Case hardened sidelock action features non automatic safety, pivoting fastener and double triggers. Water table is cut to receive recoil lugs which are fit through lump. Action is engraved with sprays of nicely cut scroll within line borders. Lockplates are engraved with more scroll and very attractive well detailed scenes of dogs and game with a pair of setters, one pointing, on left lockplate and two ducks are settling into a marsh on right. Both plates are engraved “Baker Gun Co”. Fences are attractively engraved with scrolling acanthus in punchdot background. Trigger guard has more scroll surrounding scene of a walking woodcock on bow, serial number is on tang. Capped pistol grip buttstock is of very attractively veined and fiddle figured European walnut and measures 14 7/8" over dark “Silver” type pad. Closely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter forend with shaped hard rubber tip has J-spring release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .724", L .727". Restriction: R .014" (MOD), L .033" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .028", L .020". STOCK: DAH: 3 5/16". DAC: 1 3/4". LOP: 14 7/8". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 7 lb. 12 oz. CONDITION: fine to very fine as partially refinished. Bbls. retaining 60-70% original Damascus finish, thinning on sides from normal hand wear. Action and lockplates retain a considerable amount, perhaps as much as 30% original case hardening color, the balance is a very pleasing bright silver. Trigger guard is mostly flaked to gray brown. Stocks retain nearly all of a good quality hand rubbed oil refinish, sharp edges a bit softened. Checkering competently recut. Pad is relatively new. Bores are shiny and bright with slight evidence of old dent repair(s?) in tops of both bbls. about 17" from muzzle. Action is tight. Mechanically good. (01-20983/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
