ATTRACTIVE FLINTLOCK FOWLER/FUSIL WITH LOCK

MARKED "SHARPE" HAS PRESENTATION PLAQUE IN STOCK. Cal. 65. NSN. Bbl. 39 1/2" half oct., unmarked, "1826" is deeply stamped on tang. Good quality lock w/ slightly raised plate & rebated tail features serpentine cock, semi waterproof pan, bridled frizzen & roller on feather spring w/ bulbous finial. Bbl. & lock are in original flint. Well figured walnut stock extends to w/in 3" of muzzle & attaches to bbl. w/ 3 brass side bolts through shaped rectangular escutcheons. Stock is brass mounted. Triggerguard & buttplate w/ some scroll engraving. Steel ramrod w/ brass trumpet head mts. through 3 flared pipes & matching thimble. Right side of butt has later silver inlay of drooped head heraldic eagle over rectangular presentation plate inscribed "Awarded to Jacob W Van Deern Sgt. by the 7th Company National Guards, Commanded by Capt Charles B Spicer in the 27 Regt N.Y..S.A., for his superior skill at target firing. Aug 16 1826". CONDITION: fine as refinished. Bbl. & lock cleaned to bright silver. Lock markings nearly eradicated. Stock w/ old oil refinish & some repaired cracks in front of lockplate, is otherwise sound. Brass w/ worn surfaces is nicely toned. Presentation inlay has considerable polishing wear. Newer brass tacks are toned. Lock is good, mainspring weak. Bores good, shiny. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19710/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
