BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN BY C. S. ROSSON WITH ORIGINAL CASE. Cal. 12 Ga., 2". S# 3539. Bbls. 26 1/2" dovetail, gold inlaid "FOR 2 INCH CASE ONLY" on raised narrow flat rib. Tops of bbls. engraved "C.S. Rosson & Co." "Rampant Horse Street, Nurwich". Bbl. flats stamped w/ Birmingham nitro proofs for 2" chambers & 7/8 oz. shot & 1974 London reproofs at .729 & 2 3/4 tons. Bottoms of bbls. stamped w/ serial numbers & export mark. Casehardened dbl. ogee backed boxlock action features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) & dbl. triggers. Action engraved w/ very nicely cut varying size scroll w/in geometric & line borders. "C. S. Rosson & Co." is on each side. Fences are very nicely semi relief engraved w/ meandering acanthus. Blued top lever, floorplate & trigger guard engraved w/ matching scroll & have rose bouquet highlights. Lightly streaked & figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over vintage "Silver" pad. Stock also features drop points, closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip & a vacant silver oval on toeline. Matching short splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: bbl.: bore diameter: right: .730", left: .731". Restriction: right: .011" (IMOD), left: .020" (MOD). Minimum wall thickness: right: .021", left: .019". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/8". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 15". CAST: approx. 5/8". WEIGHT: 5 lbs. 5 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun housed in what appears to be its original Brady type leather case w/ stitched leather corners lined in burgundy gabardine. A gold embossed black morocco leather Rosson label is in lid. Case contains 2 piece oak & brass cleaning rod, pair of Rosson marked snap caps & case straps. CONDITION: very good to fine as partially refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a good quality reblack, most likely done at time of reproof. Action retains about 50% original casehardening color, fading to bright silver & gray from normal hand wear. Secondary blued parts reblued w/ considerable softening of engraving. Reblue of trigger guard failed & its color is purple. Stocks retain a considerable amount of what appears to be their original hand rubbed oil finish. Checkering considerably worn on buttstock, forend checkering partially cleaned up. Bores are bright & shiny w/ a few scattered very minor pits toward breech ends & no noted repairs or problems. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are out of time. Case is fine to very fine, exterior w/ only a few rubs through top grain & quite a few impressions. Interior cloth is very good to fine w/ some soiling & rubs from normal contact w/ gun. Label is very fine w/ a sm. loss at left. Accessories are good. (21-4037/MGM). CURIO. $3,000-4,500.
