GUNSMITH WILLIAM BODENHEIMER. Cal. 40. NSN. Bbl. 36-1/2" full oct. marked "W. BODENHEIMER." Nicely engraved lock also marked "W. BODENHEIMER." Attractive curly maple stock features 16 engraved silver inlays, a 6" engraved saddleplate, & stock has a cheek piece on both sides. There is a silver arrow through heart inlay behind bbl. tang & another silver arrow inlay on comb at buttplate. Bodenheimer worked in Lancaster, OH where he was listed as a gunsmith in 1859 through 1879. CONDITION: 1 sm. football shaped inlay behind trigger guard is missing, & 1/2" section of the silver wire inlay on the right side behind cheek piece needs to be reset. The forward point on the saddleplate needs two silver wire nails to properly hold it in place. Otherwise rifle is clean & solid throughout. PROVENANCE: Estate of Frank Glenn Marsh. (01-21284/RG).
