Argentine Contract Model 1879 Remington Rolling Block Three-Band Rifle, NVSN, .43 Spanish (11mm) cal., blued 36'' barrel with long saber bayonet lug on right side, and integral block-blade front and adjustable sliding-leaf rear sights, marked ''Modelo Argentino 1879 E.N.'' on top flat of 2.25'' octagonal rear section; blued receiver with integral triggerguard is marked on top tang with the Remington name, address and patent dates in three lines; blued breechblock, hammer, trigger, and buttplate; varnished hardwood forend with blued nosecap and three blued barrel bands (middle with sling swivel) retaining the slotted and grooved steel ramrod, and matching buttstock with sling swivel underneath. Condition is fine as partially refinished: the barrel retains approx. 97% of what appears to be original dull military blue, and sharp markings; the balance of the metal parts were likely reblued during the late 1950s/early 1960s when the Argentine government released these rifles for resale (many to U.S. importers), as the tang markings are weak. Stocks are sound and mostly smooth showing occasional handling dings (mostly on forend, which has a 5.75'' wood patch on bottom left between the top and middle bands), and fit ''proud,'' with nice color and smooth varnish finish. Action is very strong and smooth; bore is bright with sharp rifling. Est.: $450-$650. (Antique)
