African Ironwood Cape Buffalo
African Ironwood Cape Buffalo

A distinguished member of the African Big Five, the Cape Buffalo is a highly sought-after trophy. The characteristic feature is its horns that have fused together to form a continuous bone shield across the top of its head, often referred to as a 'boss'. Having never been domesticated and extremely unpredictable in nature, it is widely regarded as a very dangerous animal and is known to gore and kill hundreds of people every year. With few predators other than humans, lions and large crocodiles, this mighty beast is very capable of defending itself.

This sculpture was acquired in South Africa and is carved from South African ironwood, which has a reputation for its hardness. Ironwood is known to have a density that is heavier than water making this a substantial piece of art to add to your collection.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Originally carved from a solid piece of ironwood, this beautiful large sculpture measures approximately 23” long x 9.5” wide x 15.25” tall and weighs approximately 26 pounds. Some scattered hairlines and stable shrinkage cracks, good condition.
