American Halfstock Percussion Plains Rifle, by Dreppard of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, NVSN, approx. .36 cal., 38.25'' medium-weight octagonal steel barrel marked ''Dreppard / Lancaster'' on top flat ahead of breech, dovetailed steel blade front sight, vacant rear sight dovetail. Iron lockplate with line border and scroll engraving marked ''Dreppard / Lancaster''. Originally flintlock, converted to percussion using the drum and nipple method; double set triggers. Barrel retained by two iron wedges and oval German silver escutcheons, German silver sideplate escutcheons, nose cap, three ramrod thimbles, fancy scrolled triggerguard, vacant oval nameplates atop wrist and at bottom of buttstock, crescent buttplate, engraved inlay on left side of buttstock, ornate engraved German silver patchbox on right. Walnut halfstock with carved cheekpiece and incised lines enclosing checkering at wrist; plain hardwood ramrod. Condition is good with iron parts showing medium to heavy pitting and a dark iron patina, brass repair at toe of buttstock. Stock with losses to left side at barrel and repairs above the lockplate and at right of barrel tang (tang missing one screw) but otherwise sound.
