Antique American Classic Kentucky Flintlock Pistol, of the Revolutionary to War of 1812 Era, NVSN, .50 cal., pin-retained 8.375" octagonal barrel has brass (or gold) band at breech, vacant .25"x1" matching rectangular nameplate and matching 1"x1" spread-wing American eagle inlay, overall fine water-pattern etching, dovetailed low-blade front and oval dished rear sights; lock is an English import marked "Benedict/& Roby/Warranted" below the integral pan, has "swan-neck" cock and engraved pointed tail; brass furniture includes trigger guard with starburst engraved on loop, small "bowtie" sideplate, lock screw escutcheon, nosecap, two fluted pipes retaining the swell-tip hardwood ramrod; engraved silver teardrop-shaped buttcap, vacant oval German-silver nameplate at wrist. Fullstock of artificially-striped maple has "bird's head" butt profile, raised aprons at either side of lock, step at lower pipe. Made ca. 1780-1812 likely in Pennsylvania, perhaps with blued barrel, case hardened lock, bright brass and silver. Condition is good to very good showing clean gunmetal gray barrel and lock having occasional light discoloration, very good etching, inlays and markings, smooth brass and silver. Stock shows nice original striping, 2" section of replaced wood at top-rear of lock, 3.75" section of non-matching replaced wood at forend, added varnish. Lock appears to be original flintlock with correct parts and original to this gun, touchhole has been refurbished. Action is crisp; bore shows overall light-to-medium erosion and deep, very good rifling. Included is a modern walnut case lined in red crushed velvet, in excellent condition. Est.: $2,000-$2,500.
