Antique American Flintlock Kentucky Long Rifle, NVSN, .54 cal., unmarked 41" round-to-octagonal pinned barrel, dovetailed low-blade front and notched rear sights, double incised lines at either side of rear sight; delicate English-import flat lockplate with step at rear has sparse "turkey track" engraving, matching "swan's neck" cock and is marked "Condon/Warranted" below the integral pan; brass furniture includes trigger guard with finger-scroll at rear, 7.25" patchbox with hinged door opening to butt trap for spare nipples, linen patches (none present), crescent buttplate with faceted top tang, "bowtie" sideplate, nosecap and 3 ferrules retaining the plain hardwood ramrod. Fullstock of varnished and artificially-striped maple has "Roman Nose" butt profile, relief fluted cheekpiece at left, raised panels at either side of lock, step at lower thimble. Mfg'd early 19th Century. Condition is very good retaining traces of what may be barrel blue along the stock margins, else smooth gunmetal gray-brown showing heavy pitting in touchhole area, brass with light toning. Edges, markings and engraving are mostly sharp. Lock appears to be original flintlock with correct parts, touchhole apparently was restored at some time. Action is crisp, "buck & ball" smoothbore is clean containing an undated description and sales receipt for this rifle signed by the late Frank Sellers. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (Antique)
