Antique C.H. Ballard Single-Shot Spurtrigger Derringer, #2406, .41 RF cal., 2-7/8'' round-to-octagonal tip-up barrel with tiny blade front sight, is marked ''Ballard's'' on top flat, and ''C.H. Ballard & Co. /Worcester, Mass./Pat'd. June 22, 1869'' on left side, has auto-extraction, knurled barrel-release catch and large hinge beneath; brass frame has a standing breech and integral spurtrigger sheath and ''bird's head'' grip straps; varnished two-piece plain walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1870, originally with blued barrel and silver-plated frame. Condition is very good. Barrel retains small traces of blue in protected areas, and is otherwise gunmetal gray; frame also retains traces of darkened original finish, and light toning. Grips are smooth and solid with most original varnish. Action is crisp; bore is clean with light frosting and defined rifling. Ballard derringers are scarce today, as only a few thousand were mfg'd. 150 years ago. Est.: $500-$700. (Antique)
