Antique British P-1844 Percussion Artillery Carbine, NVSN, .69 cal., 15.75" round barrel marked "S" at breech (other markings obscured by pitting), small blade front and 2-leaf rear sights; flat lockplate marked "(large crown)/V-R" and "(broad arrow)" ahead of hammer, has stepped rear; brass fittings include loop trigger guard having long rear tang, buttplate marked "280/HYC" at heel, 2 round lock screw escutcheons, nosecap, and 3.375" fluted ferrule for the hinged stirrup ramrod with large button tip; fullstock of oil-finished walnut has circular maker's cartouche at right (illegible but for possible "1869" date), illegible (possibly "Barnett") mark to left-side lock apron, has 2 barrel retaining keys. Mfg'd ca. 1850s-60s. Condition is good showing dark patina with overall moderate cleaned pitting to barrel (color may have been added), balance of iron smooth dark patina, brass with moderate toning. Stock is sound with fairly light marks of military use, 1.5" shallow gouge at comb, else smooth, likely having been sanded with added color and finish. Entire gun appears to wear a coat of amber-color varnish. Action is smooth, smoothbore is clean with scattered light rust erosion. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
