Antique British P-1849 Sea Service Single Shot Percussion Pistol, NVSN, .58 cal., 6'' round barrel with small post front and notched rear sights, marked with ''(crown)/17'', ''(crown)/PI'', ''(Broad Arrow)'', ''(crown)/B/7'' and ''(crown)/Arrow'' proof/acceptance marks; border-engraved flat lockplate is marked with a delicate ''(crown)/VR/Tower 1849'' and ''(crown)'' below percussion bolster, matching military-style hammer has feather engraving at arm/striker juncture; 6.625'' steel belt hook opposite lock; brass furniture includes loop trigger guard, flat oval buttcap with swivel lanyard eye, flat nosecap and ferrule retaining the button-tip steel stirrup-type ramrod; varnished walnut fullstock has raised aprons at both sides of lock, marked ''(Broad Arrow)/BO'' at left wrist, ''W. Scott'' and ''A. Ginder'' on left apron. 11.5'' overall length. Mfg'd ca. 1849. Condition is fine, the barrel having a smooth blue-brown patina, the lockplate showing subtly mottled case colors, the brass light age patina. Stock is solid and smooth showing scattered age/use marks, lovely color and grain, and a perhaps later coat of varnish. Workmanship and metal-to-wood fitment are exquisite; edges and markings are sharp; action is strong and smooth; smoothbore is bright and clean with very light frosting toward breech.
