Antique British Proofed Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army Cartridge Revolver, #3779, .450 Boxer CF cal., 7.5'' round barrel marked ''Colt's Pt. F. A. Mfg. Co. Hartford, CT U.S.A.'' in italic font, tiny British proofmarks on cylinder periphery behind each flute and on left side of barrel at frame juncture, left frame with two-line 1871-72 patent dates, ''45 Cal'' marked on left triggerguard bolster, originally blued and case hardened finishes, steel grip straps with varnished one-piece walnut grip. All visible matching serial numbers; loading gate correctly marked ''69''. Mfg'd late 1873-early 1874; originally shipped to Colt's London Agency on Jan. 5, 1874, in a shipment of 100 guns. Condition is excellent, with smooth metal retaining most thinning and toning original blue to barrel, approx. 85% deep blue to ejector rod housing, bluish-brown cylinder with much blue in flutes, most original blue on front half of triggerguard and backstrap apron and bottom, the balance a pleasing gunmetal gray. Frame and hammer retain much bright case color; screws retain bright original fire blue with unmarred slots. Grips show a few age and use marks, fit well, have wonderful color, and retain most of their original varnish. Action is crisp and sure, bore appears excellent. Simply put, an exemplary early Single Action, in a desirable large caliber, accompanied by a 1968-dated Colt factory letter verifying all the above features and signed by famed Colt historian R.H. Wagner. From the iconic Mel Guy Collection of Single Action Colt revolvers. Est.: $15,000-$18,000. (Antique)
