Antique Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter, #148171, .44-40 cal., 4.75" barrel, blue and color case hardened finish, checkered hard rubber two-piece Colt eagle grips, black powder frame, and standard fixed sights. Back half of the barrel shows fine punch dot and scroll non-factory engraving. Inside of the loading gate is marked "98". Mfg'd 1892. Revolver is in near excellent overall condition as professionally refurbished, retaining approx. 96%-97% of an old, high quality reblued finish; showing light wear at the muzzle and ejector rod housing. Cylinder shows modest leading edge wear, with old pinprick pitting under the new finish. Barrel markings are light. Frame displays vivid, refreshed color case hardened finish, more muted on the hammer. Visible serial numbers are all-matching with the butt showing aggressive polishing. Grips with fine checkering detail and sharp eagles. Action is good with all four clicks. Bore is fair with moderate erosion and visible rifling. Includes a Colt Factory letter confirming the revolver's features, except for a 7 " barrel, indicating the revolver was shipped October 25, 1892 to A.L. Babcock Hardware Company, Billings, Montana, with one gun in shipment. An interesting shipping destination with a single gun in shipment that deserves additional research. Est.: $2,000-$2,500.
