Antique English Brass-Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss, by Brunn of London, NVSN, approx. .70 cal., 14.5'' round-to-octagonal brass barrel bells to 1.75'' at its cannon-turned muzzle, has two cannon-turned rings at round-octagon juncture, finely engraved breech and top tang, and marked ''London'' on top flat; beveled steel lockplate with small pointed rear teat is finely border engraved and marked ''Brunn'' under matching reinforced cock and pan; brass furniture includes loop triggerguard with lovely engraved pineapple front tang finial and elongated rear tang, engraved buttplate, two circular screw escutcheons opposite the lock, and two fancy fluted ferrules retaining the horn-tipped hardwood ramrod; varnished English walnut fullstock has raised aprons about both sides of the lock. Mfg'd ca. 1780-1820. This arm appears to be in original flintlock configuration, having unbushed touchhole and original parts; many of the screw heads are sunburst-engraved. Condition is fine. Brass shows an overall smooth aged tone; iron parts are clean gunmetal gray. Stock is solid and smooth showing only handling marks (has 6 ''kill'' notches carved at lower butt), good edges, nice grain and color, and perhaps an added coat of finish. Markings are sharp. This is a quality piece, complete and original. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
