Antique English Large-Bore Double-Action Transitional Percussion Revolver, by White & Bates, #1, .44 cal., wedge-retained 6" octagonal barrel is marked with makers' names on top flat, tiny Birmingham proof mark on bottom; round 6-shot cylinder has border engraving at front edge, matching tiny proof marks over each bore; floral engraved open-top frame has top bar-hammer, loop trigger guard, integral gripstraps with hinged butt trap for spare nipples, 2-pc. finely-checkered ebonized hardwood grips. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s. Condition is fine retaining approx. 20% barrel blue, 40% on cylinder and frame, with scattered mild erosion, especially barrel. Grips are sound with unworn checkering, fit well. Serial #1 matches throughout. Action is crisp, bore shows mild-to-moderate erosion, very good rifling. Unusual and rare. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
