Antique European (Likely Austrian) Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine, Originally Flintlock Made & Altered by one of Several Gov't Contractors, NVSN, approx. .72 cal., unmarked 14.5" round barrel, block-blade front and raised-notch rear sights; beveled lockplate is unmarked, has nipple-and-drum alteration; iron fittings include loop trigger guard with rear finger-grip marked "5", straight buttplate, serpentine sideplate made integral with 6.5" saddle bar and ring, front band/nosecap; 3/4-length stock of varnished hardwood has 7" raised cheekrest at left, iron ramrod with flared tip. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s. Condition is good, the iron surfaces retaining approx. 20% original nickel with scattered light oxidation. Stock is sound showing nicks and dings and a 1" area of wood loss at top-rear of lock, another sliver loss ahead of trigger guard, most of a perhaps-later varnish. Edges are sharp, action is stiff, bore is clean showing moderate erosion and sharp rifling. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
