Antique European Single Shot Flintlock Military Carbine, NVSN, .70 cal., 18.625" round barrel retained by two keys marked with a matted hummingbird-like figure at breech, has dovetailed brass blade front, no rear sight; rounded lockplate with pointed tail is marked with a ram's head-like image under integral pan; brass furniture includes loop trigger guard having a fan-shaped front tang, buttplate, nosecap and single ferrule retaining the captive button-top steel ramrod; fullstock of oil-finished hardwood is marked "EIC/BC/74" at left butt, has raised aprons at either side of lock. Mfg'd ca. early 1800s. Condition is good, the dark iron barrel with scattered moderate pitting, else dark-brown aged metal, and deeply-toned brass. Stock is sound with light-to-medium dings and gouges, and a 1.75" oval wood patch ahead of trigger guard. Lock appears original flintlock with correct parts, touchhole perhaps was welded, drilled and filed. Action is crisp, smoothbore shows heavy black-powder erosion. Likely used with "buck-and-ball" loads. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
