Antique European Single Shot Percussion Pistol, unmarked as to maker but possibly Spanish or Mediterranean, NVSN, .64 cal., 7.375'' octagonal barrel has swamped muzzle, shows an overall (possibly artificial) striped/Damascus pattern, two gold bands at breech, small front post and dished rear sights retained by a single wedge; flat lockplate has graceful hammer and flash-fence; iron fittings include finger-grip trigger guard, large bolt opposite lock, button-tip ramrod; one-piece varnished walnut halfstock has raised carved oval molding at butt. Pistol shows rather simple (even crude) workmanship and metal-to-wood fitment. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-70s, perhaps finished in the white originally but for striped barrel. Condition is very good retaining no original metal finishes (but for barrel striping), being smooth gunmetal with occasional light discoloration. Stock is sound showing light wear, minor nicks and small losses where it joins the metal; barrel wedge is missing. Action is strong and smooth; bore shows fine micro-rifling and scattered black-powder etching. Est.: $300-$400. (Antique)
