Antique French Gaulois No. 1 Five-Shot Repeating Palm or Squeezer Pistol, with original purse style holster, #11366, 8mm Extra-Short RF cal., 2.25'' round barrel with pin front (and no rear) sight, marked ''Gaulois'' with crossed arrow/bat(?) proof mark; solid frame is marked ''Cal. 8m/m'' in front of the sliding finely-grooved top dust cover marked ''No. 1'', has a circular logo reading ''Manufacture Francaise/Armes et Cycles/Sa'nt Etienne'' behind, a rotating selector arm that points to ''S'' (Safe), ''F'' (Fire) or ''D'' (Disassembly) on right side, a tiny ''(dot)/1'' on bottom below fine finger grooves at front, and for firing the pistol, a rear sliding bar assembly with finely-checkered black hard rubber pad. Mfg'd ca. 1890s, in full nickel-plate with blued dustcover and selector switch, case hardened squeezer assembly. Condition is fine retaining approx. 90% bright nickel, muted blue and case colors, sharp edges and markings. Grip pad has sharp checkering but is missing a .125''x.25'' chip at top and a similar one at bottom. Action appears to function as designed; bore is clean showing light frosting and faint rifling. Purse-style holster of brownish woven cloth has nickel-plated brass hinged clasp-closure, appears to be chamois lined, and is in very good condition. Est.: $1,500-$2,000.
