Antique French Military Model 1822 Single Shot Percussion Pistol, by St. Etienne Armory, NVSN, approx. .75 cal., 7-7/8'' octagon-to-round thin wall barrel with unusual post-type front sight and notched rear sight, barrel tang marked ''Mle 1822'' (faint), iron lockplate marked ''Mre Impale'' over ''de St. Etienne'', hammer with distinctive straight thumb spur, iron backstrap runs full-length from barrel tang to buttcap; brass barrel band, serpentine sideplate, brass triggerguard and buttcap with long tang and iron lanyard mount. One-piece European walnut stock stamped with circular arsenal cartouche and multiple inspectors' marks. Condition is good showing no original finish and heavy black powder pitting covering most of the barrel under a dark age patina; lockplate is smooth dark metal with clear markings; brass shows an aged patina. Stock is solid showing many faint arsenal and inspector marks and a later coat of varnish. Missing brass sideplate, ramrod and lanyard ring. Action is stout; bore is dark and pitted. Est.: $600-$800.
