Antique French Military Model 1842 Single-Shot Percussion Musket, NVSN, .69 cal., 32.25" round unmarked barrel, back-action lock marked "Mrc Nle/de Tulle" (National Armory at Tulle) at rear, has hammer with very tall knurled spur and left bend to reach nipple; brass fittings include loop trigger guard with sling loop at front and long rear tang with 2 finger-rests, straight buttplate, rounded-triangle sideplate, 3 spring-retained barrel bands (top of the double-strap type with integral front sight, middle with lug for sling swivel, bottom with proofmark), all acting as ferrules for the steel swelled-tip ramrod. Fullstock of oil-finished walnut has a tall comb. Mfg'd ca. 1840s. Condition is good, the barrel exhibiting a smooth brown patina with bright polished metal in protected areas, the lock and hammer gunmetal gray with light oxidation, brass with age toning. Stock is sound showing scattered nicks and use marks but lacks roundel and other marks, having been sanded and filed and refinished with varnish. Action is strong and smooth (nipple is a modern replacement), smoothbore appears clean with overall light oxidation. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)
