Antique French Percussion Musketoon, by Charleville Arsenal, Altered from Flintlock, NVSN, .69 cal., unmarked 24.5" round barrel made without rear sight; beveled lockplate with rounded tail is marked "Cann Mre. Mp le/de Charleville", has hammer with tall spur; brass furniture includes trigger guard having steel lower tang with 2 finger grips and sling loop at rear, buttplate, serpentine sideplate marked "P-F", spring-retained double-strap nosecap/top band with integral front sight holding the steel tulip-tip ramrod; oil-finished walnut fullstock has .5" inlet roundel at right, several stamped letters/numbers and 2 military cartouches at left, spring-retained lower band with sling loop. Mfg'd ca. 1820s, altered ca. 1860s. Condition is good with bright metal having light toning, fine edges and markings. Stock is sound showing occasional marks, a 2.25"x.5" wood patch above the rear band spring on both sides, a .75" shallow wood loss in the ramrod channel, and a 4.5" repaired crack at left of top band; nipple is a modern replacement. Action is crisp, smoothbore is clean with overall light pitting. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
