Antique Long Two-Barrel Halfstock Percussion Side-by-Side Combination Gun, retailed by Wholesale Hardware Merchant R.W. Booth in Cincinnati, Ohio, circa 1840s. NVSN, 40.25'' approx. .54 cal. 12-sided rifled left barrel, 12 ga. round smoothbore right shotgun barrel, marked on top rib ''Norcross'', dovetailed brass (or copper) base German silver blade front sight and adjustable ramp rear sight, with floral engraving at barrel breech. Replacement brass-tipped, flame-striped hickory ramrod is retained by two under-barrel iron thimbles and a lightly border engraved German silver ferrule at forend. Barrel group retained by two iron wedges and four border engraved German silver escutcheons. Lightly engraved serpentine iron lockplates are both marked ''R.W. Booth / Cincinnati''; double hammers and twin triggers; floral engraved top tang; scrolled iron triggerguard with two finger rests. Buttstock with iron crescent buttplate having a floral engraved German silver bottom tang and a four-pointed ''sun'' inlay of German silver on left side; hinged plain brass patchbox on right. Condition is good, the iron parts having a deep dark-brown patina showing age and occasional roughness. Walnut stock is sound showing some discoloration with the expected marks of age and use; a long sliver of wood is missing above wedge escutcheons on right side; another sliver is missing above forend ramrod ferrule; what appears to be a crack at right wrist may be grain in the wood. Actions function; left trigger sticks; bores appear clean with sharp rifling in rifle barrel. Est.: $700-$1,000. (Antique)
