Antique Henry Deringer Single-Shot Percussion Pocket Pistol, NVSN, .44 cal., 2.5'' round barrel with dovetailed, low blade German silver front sight, is marked ''Deringer/Philadela'' and ''P'' within a sunburst between two platinum bands at breech, has floral-engraved top tang with notch rear sight; engraved serpentine lockplate carries the same maker's marking, matching hammer; German silver mountings include a flash plate below the engraved nipple bolster, leaf-shaped sideplate, left and right barrel wedge escutcheons, loop trigger guard with long leaf-shaped front tang, teardrop-shaped buttcap, shield inlay at wrist, and forend cap, all engraved en suite; one-piece varnished walnut fullstock is checkered at wrist and ''bird's head'' butt. Mfg'd ca. 1856-66. Measures 5.5'' overall. Condition is near fine. Barrel retains little of the original simulated Damascus but is a smooth overall gunmetal-brown color; German silver is clean and bright; markings and engraving are sharp. Stock is solid and smooth with lightly worn checkering and most of its thin original varnish. Action is smooth; bore is clean with sharp rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
