Antique Japanese Shakudo Tsuba - Birds and Nets. Circa Edo period, late 18th to early 19th Century. Nice small mokko shaped, smooth, shakudo tsuba with silver and gold birds flying over fishing nets hung to dry. Very nice high quality workmanship and details to the design motifs. There is an expertly done smooth shakudo rim carved around the edge, and small kozuka and kogai hitsuanas on either side of the nakago ana; the reverse features carved leaves and stalks and a copper and gold stick or handle. Tsuba measures 56mm wide x 63mm tall, showing wear around the seppa dai area from mounting on a sword. Unsigned. Condition is excellent, showing minor age and light wear, mainly around the center. Body of the tsuba has a wonderful dark black patina to the shakudo surface. In wood storage box. Est.: $400-$600.
