Antique Japanese Wakizashi Sword. Traditionally mounted Japanese samurai short sword with a 13.5'' shobu-zukuri style blade, and a small peaked wavy temper line. Unsigned tang with two holes, one being filled with copper. Silver-plated copper habaki collar. The tsuba guard is soft metal with a nice dark patina, silver rim, and one gold over copper filled hitsu-ana hole. Old silk cord handle wrapping with flat copper menuki of an unknown design, and some damage to the wrapping on one side. Iron and gold handle fittings decorated in a bamboo leaf design are a matched set and unsigned. Dark red mottled lacquered saya scabbard showing some chips and scrapes, and one tight hairline crack on the back. Missing the kojiri, or bottom fitting for the scabbard. Blade polish has been smoothed over, but temper is visible. There is some very minor pinprick pitting and the tip of the point has been blunted. Blade circa late 1700's to 1800's. Est.: $500-$700.
