Antique Japanese Wakizashi in Shirasaya. Mumei (unsigned) shinogi-zukuri-shaped wakizashi, muji pear skin hada, nioi deki gunome choji hamon with ko-nie, chu-kissaki with ko-maru almost ichi-mai boshi. Nakago is suriage with one mekugi-ana (hole). Probably dates from the late Shinto period of sword making (1650-1750), with a nice solid silver habaki and cat scratched file marks. The blade is housed in a shirasaya resting scabbard. Includes a copy of the Japanese Police registration paper (torokusho), and a printed page from a Japanese sword dealer showing photos of the blade and information. Condition is very good, the blade in a good state of polish, but with numerous spots and stains from old dried oil. These will need proper, careful cleaning to remove them. The hamon is prominent and has nice activity. The nakago has a nice dark brown patina. The shirasaya is starting to split near the bottom but is still pretty tight. There is a ding and dent at the top edge of the handle. Overall a nice sword, needing a little TLC. Est.: $800-$1,500.
