Antique Marlin Model 1893 Takedown Lever Action Rifle, #131052, .38-55 CF cal., blued 32'' octagonal barrel, with buckhorn style open sights, marked with maker's name, address, and 1887-88-93 patent dates in two lines on top flat, and ''38-55'' at breech; blued tubular cartridge magazine; case hardened receiver with sliding bolt is marked ''Marlin Safety'' on top, ''Model/1893'' on upper tang and serial number at lower front; loop operating lever; varnished walnut forearm with steel nose cap, matching pistol-grip buttstock with steel crescent buttplate. Mfg'd 1895. Condition is very good. Barrel and mag tube retain approx. 25% original blue (the rest blending into smooth brown) with sharp edges and lettering; receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate retain muted case colors but are mostly silvered out. Stocks are sound and smooth showing light marks of age and use, very worn checkering at pistol grip (with perhaps some re-shaping at belly and toe of buttstock), and a later coat of varnish. Action is smooth; bore is brilliant with deep rifling. The Model 1893 was the first Marlin rifle chambered for the then-new smokeless powder cartridges. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
