Antique Marlin Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle, #152202, .40-65 CF cal., 26.5'' octagonal barrel with dovetailed bead front and adjustable buckhorn rear sight, marked with maker's name, address and patent dates in two lines ahead of rear sight, and ''40-65'' behind; full-length under-barrel magazine tube; solid frame with right-side cartridge ejection marked ''Marlin Safety'' flanked by feather-like finials on top, ''Model/1895'' on top tang, and ''152202'' at bottom front; loop operating lever; varnished walnut stocks have near-deluxe grain and checkered panels at forearm and wrist, steel nosecap and crescent rifle buttplate. Mfg'd pre-1896. Condition is fine. Barrel and mag tube retain approx. 92% blue; receiver, lever and hammer show hints of case colors but have mostly silvered out; buttplate is a smooth gunmetal gray. Stocks are smooth showing only minor age/use marks, moderately worn forearm checkering, lovely grain and color, and most of what may be a later light varnish finish. Action is smooth and sure; bore is bright with sharp rifling. The Model 1895s, with their large hunting calibers, relatively low production (about 18,000 guns) and this one's perhaps special-ordered barrel length, are considered scarce and desirable. Est.: $900-$1,200. (Antique)
