Antique Merrimack Arms Co. ''Southerner'' Spurtrigger Derringer, #2289, .41 RF cal., 2.5'' octagonal barrel with small blade front sight, marked ''Southerner'' on top and ''Merrimack Arms & Mfg. Co./Newburyport, Mass./Patented April 9, 1867'' on left side, pivots to left for cartridge loading/auto extraction; iron frame has integral spurtrigger sheath and grip straps; two-piece varnished rosewood grips. Mfg'd 1866-69, originally with blued barrel and case hardened frame. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces show no original finish, but a smooth gunmetal gray barrel, and a frame that has silvered out; all edges and markings are sharp. Grips are sound with an added coat of linseed oil. Action is tight and smooth; bore is brilliant with deep rifling; barrel hinge is sound. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
