Antique Merrimack Arms Co. ''Southerner'' Spurtrigger Derringer, #3875, .41 RF cal., 2.5'' octagonal barrel with a tiny blade front sight, marked ''Southerner'' on top and ''Merrimack Arms & Mfg. Co./Newburyport, Mass./Patented April 9, 1867'' on left side, pivots to left for cartridge loading/auto extraction; brass (or bronze) frame with integral spurtrigger sheath and grip straps, marked ''3875'' on butt; two-piece varnished rosewood grips. Mfg'd 1866-69, originally with blued barrel and silver-plated frame. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces show no original finish, but a smooth gunmetal gray barrel, smooth lightly-toned brass, sharp edges and markings. Grips are sound with light wear and added varnish. Action is tight and smooth; bore is clean with light frosting and deep rifling; barrel hinge is sound. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
