Antique Middle Eastern (perhaps Turkish) Flintlock Single Shot Holster Pistol, NVSN, approx. .60 cal., 7-5/8'' round iron barrel with etched scroll decoration and remnants of possible maker's markings (indecipherable), brass barrel tang with raised teardrop-shaped rear sighting plane; unmarked iron sideplate, and lockplate with fancy scrolled tail to frizzen; iron trigger with scrolled tail; ornate iron triggerguard with fluted bow and tree-shaped front tang; ornately decorated German silver buttcap with bulging sides and extended tangs; possibly later added brass muzzle wrap with numerous stampings of crosses, dots within circles, borders, and a crimped seam at bottom. European hardwood fullstock is ornately and fully carved, and inlaid with intricate patterns and borders of silver wire, especially around relief carved top tang apron; a diamond-shaped brass escutcheon (with stamped patterns matching the muzzle wrap) is inletted into the stock wrist; it may hide a stock repair, but is bordered by fine silver wire inlay that matches the rest of the gun. Condition is about good, appearing to be in original flintlock configuration with unbushed touchhole, an overall dark gunmetal color and scattered mild pitting to iron parts. Stock shows great age and use, possible wrist repairs and filler; bottom end of rear triggerguard tang is broken off; buttcap missing what was likely a lanyard ring. Action functions; smoothbore is dark. This was originally a richly decorated and ornate pistol. Est.: $300-$500. (Antique)
