Antique Ornately-Stocked Austrian Schuetzen Percussion Target Rifle, NVSN, .44 cal., key-retained 29" heavy octagonal barrel (measures 1.1" across flats at swamped muzzle dished for bullet-starter) has hooded Beach-type front, fancy notched rear and 1.75" dia. tang peep sights, marked "F. Umfahrer in Klagenfurt" (state of Carinthia, southern Austria) on top flat ahead of finely engraved breech/tang; flat lockplate is similarly engraved with a bird amid floral scrolls ahead of engraved hammer. Stock of satin finished, deluxe-grain walnut has large right-side handhold with relief-carved acanthus leaves at front, dramatic steel trigger guard having 4 finger-grips and lower scroll, flowing comb with large carved scroll at right, 6" cheekrest carved at left, engraved heavy 6" Swiss-style steel buttplate with exaggerated lower scroll. Single set trigger. Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 85% thinning/toning original barrel blue, darkened case colors to lock and buttplate, sharp edges, engraving and markings. Stock is sound, smooth and unmarked showing lovely grain, color and finish. Lacks ramrod. Action is crisp, bore is bright with sharp spiral rifling.  Sold for $3,100 in 2013.  Est.: $1,000-$1,500.
