Antique Percussion Saddle-Ring Cavalry Carbine, Apparently Italian-Made but in the English Style, #35, .69 cal., 18.5 tapered round barrel (octagonal for 1.5" at breech) marked "1848" at right, and "35" on top tang screw, with blade front and tall notched rear sights; beveled lockplate marked "Fabb'r./In Torino", has rounder rear with long pointed teat; iron fittings include trigger guard (2 screws marked "35") having 2 finger-ribs and elongated rear tang, buttplate, serpentine sideplate with 5.75" U-shaped saddle bar and ring (2 screws marked "35"), single "double-strap" band retaining the steel ramrod with swelled tip; walnut halfstock has raised aprons either side of lock. Mfg'd originally in flintlock ca. 1810s-30s, altered to percussion ca. 1848. Condition is good, the iron surfaces showing moderate to heavy pitting and dark gunmetal gray-brown color. Stock is sound showing nicks/dings of age and military use, 1x.5" filler patch at front trigger guard tang, has small losses at top tang, below hammer, at ramrod channel. Hammer is an ill-fitting replacement, as is barrel band. Action is weak, smoothbore shows general moderate rust erosion. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
