Antique Remington No. 3 Vest Pocket Single-Shot Breechloading Pistol, #859, .41 RF cal., 4'' round-to-octagonal barrel with post front and notched rear sights, marked ''Remington's, Ilion, N.Y./Patd. Oct. 1, 1861, Nov. 15, 1864'' on top flat at rear; frame has unique ''split-breech'' action, guard-less trigger and integral ''saw-handle'' gripstraps, with two-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1865-88, with blued barrel, case hardened breechblock/hammer, and likely silver (or nickel)-plated frame. Condition is very good, the barrel is smooth retaining slight traces of blue in protected areas, toned case colors, the frame/straps gunmetal gray with light peppering to left side. Grips are smooth and solid having a later coat of varnish. Action is crisp; bore is bright, showing occasional erosion and sharp rifling. Est.: $500-$700. (Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
