Antique Remington-Rider 5-Shot Magazine Pistol, NVSN, .32 Extra-Short RF, 3'' octagonal barrel is turned round for .25'' at muzzle, has front-loading cartridge magazine below and marked with maker's name and address/''Rider's Pat. Aug. 15th, 1871'' in two lines on top; frame has central breechblock and hammer, guard-less trigger and integral ''bird's head'' gripstraps, two-piece varnished rosewood grips. Mfg'd ca. 1871-88 in full nickel-plated finish with case hardened breechblock and hammer. Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 95% bright nickel overall, occasional very light marks, sharp edges and markings. Grips are smooth retaining most original varnish, the right panel showing a full-length crack at screw. Action is smooth (but does not hold cock); bore shows overall black-powder erosion and faint rifling. One of the first magazine repeating pistols, unadorned Remington-Riders like this one are scarcer than their engraved counterparts. Est.: $900-$1,200.(Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
