Antique European Single Shot Percussion Belt Pistol, #661, approx. .72 cal., 8" round smoothbore barrel, finished in the white, smooth walnut full stock with brass hardware and lanyard loop, brass blade front sight, pivoting nipple protector. There are "(Crown)/J" proofs on the backstrap and buttcap, stamped "S" and "661" on the lockplate and "661" on the barrel. Underside of the stock is marked "1H4E" over "66", maybe unit or rack numbers. The Mid-19th Century pistol is in very good overall condition with the metal parts in the white, showing scattered spots of mild rust patina; barrel, upper and lower tang have been lightly cleaned. The lock, hammer, and nipple guard show some mild salt and pepper blemishes and light toning. Stock is in very good condition, with moderate indentations and marks, including a larger gouge behind the hammer. Brass hardware has taken on a pleasing patina. Action functions well with a clean replacement nipple. Smoothbore is dark with visible surface rust. The pistol is Northern European and most likely Dutch, dating to the 1840's-1850's. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)
