Antique Spanish Breechloading Military Short Rifle, with Unique Rolling-Block Action, NVSN, .43 CF cal., unmarked 32.375" round barrel has block-blade front and folding sliding-leaf rear sights; large receiver is marked "Euscalduna/Placencia" at right, has semi-circular operating lever that rolls the hinged breechblock down and rearward for cartridge loading/auto-extraction (and also acts as a trigger guard), central hammer, integral lug and sling loop at front; oil-finished walnut full-length forearm has thin nosecap and is held by two spring-retained bands (top with sling loop), matching buttstock has curved buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1860s-80s. Condition is fine retaining approx.. 80% military-type blue having scattered discoloration and patches of light oxidation; case colors have darkened. Stocks are sound and smooth with expected marks and shallow gouges, and much original finish. Action is similar, but different from, the Remington Rolling Block, and when the hammer is cocked, the lever and breechblock automatically drop open. Action is stiff, bore is clean with overall light oxidation and sharp rifling. Est.: $300-$500. (Antique)
