Antique Spanish Military Percussion Short Rifle, NVSN, .64 cal., 25.5" tapered round barrel marked "10" at breech, with blade front and notched rear sights, and 3.375" bayonet lug at right muzzle; back-action lock is marked "J. Ybarra/No. 573/Placencia" in oval cartouche at front and "AL." behind hammer; brass fittings include trigger guard marked "44" at front and "AR" on loop, having a long iron tang, single lock screw escutcheon, 2 oval barrel key escutcheons, nosecap, two ferrules retaining the button-tip steel ramrod; stock of oil-finished walnut is marked "H.M." at left wrist, has sling loop at belly, another at top ramrod ferrule. Mfg'd ca. 1860s. Condition is very good, the barrel being gunmetal gray with general light oxidation and discoloration but for cleaned heavy pitting at breech, bolster and hammer, lockplate shows light discoloration and sharp markings, age-toned brass. Stock is sound and smooth having minimal marks and pleasing finish. Action is crisp, bore has general light erosion with heavier patches. Est.: $500-$700. (Antique)
