Antique Spanish to Eastern Mediterranean Miquelet Holster Pistol, NVSN, .75 cal., 10.635" half-round/half-octagonal barrel without sights, marked with a large "R" at top flat and "FX" at breech; unmarked "Roman" style miquelet lock has the characteristic external mainspring-sear arrangement, the cock has a grooved battery (frizzen) face and elongated jaws with ring top-screw; brass furniture includes loop trigger guard with long finial tangs, bulbous oval buttcap with long side tangs, flat sideplate, spring-retained band, nosecap, and ferrule retaining the steel ramrod. Walnut fullstock has raised aprons at either side of lock, behind the barrel tang and ramrod channel. Mfg'd likely 18th Century. Condition is good to very good, the iron parts being generally smooth gunmetal gray-brown, brass is cleaned to bright. Stock shows much age, wear and use, with worming, a crack extending from front sideplate screw across to rear lock screw, another between band and nosecap, losses along both sides of juncture with barrel, and added varnish. Band and nosecap are period replacements, as may be the sideplate. Lock appears to be original miquelet with correct parts and apparently unbushed touchhole. Action functions well, smoothbore shows overall moderate black-powder erosion. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
