Antique Spencer Model 1865 Saddle Ring Cavalry Carbine, #13089, .50 RF cal., 20'' unmarked barrel with block-blade front and sliding-leaf rear sights; steel receiver with serpentine operating lever-trigger guard, right-side back-action lock/hammer, and left-side saddle ring and bar (both removed), marked ''Model 1865'' and ''Spencer Repeating Rifle/Pat'd. - March 6, 1860/Manuf'd. at Prov. R.I./by Burnside Rifle Co.'' on top at breech; two-piece oil-finished walnut stocks, forend retained by a single barrel band, buttstock having a sling stud (swivel missing) at belly and a curved iron buttplate with swiveling door attached to magazine tube running thru stock. Mfg'd ca. 1865-66, with blued barrel, case hardened receiver, band and buttplate. Condition is good. Metal surfaces retain no original finishes but with an overall dark gunmetal gray-brown patina having scattered nicks, scratches, discoloration and pitting; clear markings. Stocks are sound showing the expected marks of age and military use, a deep gouge at left forend, knackering at barrel band, occasional dings to buttstock, and perhaps an old coat of varnish. Action is smooth; bore is clean with overall black-powder erosion and defined rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
