Antique U.S. M1866 2nd Model Allin Trapdoor Alteration with Remington Lockplate, NVSN, .50 CF cal., 36.625" round barrel marked "T", "V" and "(eagle head)" at left breech, with standard sights; trapdoor breechblock is marked "1866/(eagle head)" at hinge; lockplate is marked "(spread-wing eagle with olive branches)" to left of "Remington's/Ilion, N.Y." under trapdoor latch and "1865" behind hammer; steel fittings include 2-pc. trigger guard with front sling loop, curved buttplate marked "IS/US" at top screw and "A/13" behind, two round lock screw escutcheons, three spring-retained bands (middle with sling loop), nosecap, ramrod with slotted/grooved tip. Fullstock of oil-stained walnut has rectangular inspector's cartouche at left opposite lock. Mfg'd 1865, altered ca. 1866. Condition is fine retaining smoothly toned bright barrel, dark oil-quenched trapdoor, gunmetal gray lock and buttplate, blued bands, sharp edges and clear markings. Stock is sound and smooth with fine cartouche and later varnish. Action is crisp, bore is brilliant with 2" of light-moderate erosion at muzzle and sharp rifling. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)
