Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884-90 Single-Shot Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine, #450470, .45-70 CF cal., 22" round barrel marked "(eagle head)/V/P" at breech, pinned blade front and Buffington (marked "C" for Carbine) rear sights with Model 1890 band having "hump" sight protector; flat lockplate, saddle ring and bar attached to left opposite lock; oil-stained halfstock has correct carbine trigger guard without sling loop, carbine buttplate marked "US" at tang screw. Mfg'd ca. 1889. Condition is good to very good retaining no original finishes but an overall bluish-brown patina. Stock has glued and pegged repaired break running from top of wrist to front of trigger guard on both sides, otherwise sound. Oddly, it appears that all markings, except serial number, were intentionally removed from barrel, receiver and lockplate. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)
