Antique Winchester Model 1885 High-Wall Single Shot Rifle, #9675, .32-40 cal., 30'' octagonal #3 medium-weight barrel having buckhorn sights, marked with maker's name and address on top flat, ''32-40'' at breech, and ''3'' underneath; ''Thinside'' frame has serpentine operating lever that drops breechblock for loading/extraction, ''9675'' at bottom tang; two-piece oil-finished walnut stocks, the forearm with an ebony insert at Schnabel tip, the buttstock with crescent buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1887, with blued finish but for case hardened receiver and buttplate. Condition is good, the barrel retaining approx. 15% blue (mostly at breech area), thinning and turning smooth blue-brown, the balance of the metal having a smooth gunmetal tone (light pitting at buttplate toe), sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound with scattered age/use marks, secure left-side cracks (2.25'' at upper tang and 3.5'' at lower tang), a 3.5'' crack at right wrist and a thru-dowel repair at wrist, nice grain, color and finish. Action is smooth; bore is clean showing overall frosting and good rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
