Antique Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle, 3rd Model, #154160A, .44 W.C.F. (.44-40) cal., 28" octagonal barrel marked with maker's name and address, "King's Improvement" and 1850-56 patent dates on top flat, caliber at breech, has standard buckhorn open sights, full-length mag tube below; receiver marked "44 cal." on brass cartridge lifter, "Model 1873" top tang, has sliding top dustcover, left/right sideplates, loop operating lever that opens action for auto loading/ejection; oil-finished walnut forearm retained by a steel nosecap, matching buttstock has crescent buttplate with sliding door to trap for jointed cleaning rod (not present). Mfg'd ca. 1884. Condition is good retaining approx. 20% thin barrel blue mixing with overall smooth brown, same brown to receiver, gunmetal buttplate, darkened case colors. Stocks show much wear (especially to forend, which is worn thru likely from saddle carry), scrapes and wood erosion. Rear sight a replacement. Action is smooth, bore is clean showing erosion in grooves, very good rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
