Antique Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Short Rifle, 3rd Type, #244550B, .32 WCF (.32-20) cal., 21.5'' octagonal barrel, standard open rifle sights, marked with maker's name, address and King's Improvement patent dates in two lines on top flat and the caliber at breech; full-length mag. tube beneath; receiver has loop operating lever that drops breech for auto cartridge loading and top ejection, a sliding dustcover, is marked ''Model 1873'' flanked by feather-like flourishes at top tang, ser. no. at bottom tang, and ''32 Cal.'' on bottom of brass cartridge lifter; oil-finished walnut forearm with steel nosecap and matching buttstock with steel crescent buttplate having a sliding door opening to a butt trap for a jointed cleaning rod (not present). Mfg'd ca. 1888, in blued finish but for case hardened hammer, lever and buttplate. Condition is very good. Barrel retains approx. 25% thinning original blue with a 1.5'' spot of dark erosion beginning behind front sight, receiver with 40% thinning blue, casehardened parts are dark gunmetal gray. Stocks are solid with age-use marks (heavier on forend) and an added coat of varnish. Edges and markings are very good; action is smooth; bore is clean showing overall moderate etching and defined rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)*
