Antique Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Repeating Rifle, with Cody Firearms Museum information sheet, #75018, .45-70 CF cal., 26'' blued round barrel, with dovetailed block-blade front and adjustable leaf rear sights, marked on top ''-Manufactured by the-/-Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.-'' in two lines, and ''45-70'' just ahead of juncture, with case hardened steel receiver, which is marked ''-Model 1886-'' on top tang and ''Pat. Oct. 14, 1884/Jan. 20, 1885'', and the serial number on lower tang; blued sliding bolt; blued full-length tubular magazine; case hardened steel nosecap and crescent buttplate on oil-stained walnut forend and buttstock. Mfg'd 1893. Condition is very good, the barrel and magazine tube retaining perhaps 70% thin original blue blending with a smooth dark patina; the receiver, hammer and operating lever retaining 50% case coloring, brighter on right side of receiver; the nosecap and buttplate gunmetal gray. Forend and buttstock are sound showing handling and use marks, a small gouge at bottom of toe, and a small chip at left wrist, straight grain and fit well. All edges and markings are sharp; screw head slots are unblemished; bolt and internals show much blue. Action is crisp and smooth; bore is shiny and clean with pronounced rifling.
